I already do. I routinely prowl the house without turning on the lights. Why waste juice if you know exactly where what you're looking for is?

All sorts of external n stuff n things.

Look, in a third world country there will be loads of offspring with nothing better to do than lift weights to provide some light.... to avoid the risk of more offspring being produced.

People forget our eyes adapt to darkness properly after 10-20 seconds, so lifting the weight again wouldn't be an issue rolleyes.gif

This sounds like someone took a traditional kookoo clock and made it into a lamp.

I think this is a repost... I know I saw this months ago. Gonna go check.

Guess I just read it on Ars a couple months ago.

I think we're more likely to end up like Sol Roth in Soylent Green.

Though, if running a motor constantly could be more efficient than charging batteries, maybe having a crank on a one ton weight to keep the house going for a few hours might be better.

30 minutes wind-down time is too short. Make it 30ft tall, and put it on one of those carnival strong-man sledgehammer rigs. Then atleast you only need to swing the sledgehammer once every few hours.

AMD needs to publish a Business Manual called "How Not to Launch a Product: Learn from our Mistakes and Succeed!".
AMD probably wont tho, because that would be a guaranteed money maker.

I wonder if lifting is a more efficient conversion of calories into electricity compared to pedaling?
