Did you know Valve has banned accounts with thousands of dollars of games with them JUST because a Valve employee *thought* that a user was "too good" at a certain game? No? Well, now you do.

We've known about this issue for a while, why doesn't everyone just ditch the EA forums? That's the simple answer.

Your forum account should not be linked to your games account, period. I find it ludicrous that a guy got banned simply because someone else swore at him, that's just pants on head retarded.

No I didn't know that, but if you do have a particular story in mind and know the link I'd be interested in reading. If a player truly lost their account and all their games because Valve incorrectly assumed they were cheating, I'll readily admit that is crap on Valve's part.

I don't support the idea that any developer should have the authority to take back something they charged you for (a multiplayer ban for cheating being an exception).

Steam games are actually yours. If the service goes under, the DRM is released and you can still play biggrin.gif Just back up your files!

Anyway, i'm sorry but that's just wrong on so many levels... I really wanna see all the Pro-Origin/Anti-Steam guys defend this crap and somehow make comparisons to Steam :/

I hate both 'services' Steam and Origin but I do know someone who had about $300 worth of games on Steam... his account got hacked and he proved to their customer service that he was the rightful owner and they still, to this day, refuse to let him access his account. The service rep told him to buy the games again and suggested they had a sale going on. Lame.

So yeah, it's a lot like Steam. However, this is even more lame since it's just posts on a forum. It's got nothing to do with the game, they are not cheating. The games have swears in it constantly and rated for Mature audiences. I would sue. Make a class action lawsuit.

Look, EA has every right to retain complete control over the games you purchase, and just because you "buy" something doesn't mean you actually "own" it. Furthermore, by giving EA your money, they are entitled to examine your computer files for whatever they want. Welcome to dystopian capitalism, bro!

Seriously though, this is something I was extremely weary about when Origin hit the scene, and it seems as if these fears are materializing. Contrary to my above sarcasm, when you purchase a game, you become the owner of that game in itself. While multiplayer retains the form of a "service" whether it costs additional money or not, ownership of any offline content is supposed to be transferred upon purchase and final. Of course, with this new Origin system, EA believes they can take this content, and by having it be distributed exclusively through it's "Origin service," the content itself becomes a service. Unforunately, when I read through the EULA/TOU/TOS when I first installed BF3, there was enough there to grant EA the right to do stuff like this. Thus, the only way to really get these policies and pratices changed would be through legal channels in a court of law, or a popular boycott. However, for the time being what EA is doing is completely warranted behavior under its terms of use, with one exception being the issue of swearing (see below).

I won't buy any game that requires you to make an EA account or install Origin, which also implies an EA account.

This will only stop if people start having principles. EA seems to not really want to build a forum community, so why don't users show them that ? Those that have already bought games through Origin should just leave the forums. Leave that thing deserted. People can just start discussing in another forum, and let each other know through e-mail that they have left EA's forums (don't forget to communicate you're leaving through a means besides EA's services, or they will probably ban you too.)

And even then, there is still the added risk that someone could hack into your account and just post something in the forums that could get you banned. The mere fact that you have a single account to access both games and post on their forums is in itself an added security risk for everybody.

Simple solution to these problems!
Don't use the forums! biggrin.gif
I know I don't. I use BattleLog for one purpose alone and that is to launch my BF3 game. Nothing more nothing less. I stopped posting stuff on my "wall" and such after like a week when the rolling bans started happening.

I'm 15 16. Deal with it.

Don't they have a profanity filter on their forums?

I really don't get this "moral high road"

I mean seriously...it is a rated M game where you KILL people. This goes for everything really. Look at TV and movies here in the US. Most television shows and movies will be border line porn, extremely violent, or showing human bodies getting cut up. All this stuff could actually hurt some one if it happened in reality. I could walk down the street screaming the F word at every person I come by...and it would not effect their lives beyond perhaps startling or scaring them for a few seconds. I just don't see the big deal or how a few letters in a certain order could offend anyone.

Honestly, I am more worried about a word like stupid...since that is an actual defined word with a universal meaning. Pretty much all of the profanity words can be used to give a compliment if used correctly. Kind of hard to to give some one a compliment with the word stupid in the sentence..."Well that dress doesn't look stupid"...yeah...that wouldn't work very well. If my kids swore...i wouldn't be overly concerned, I would tell them that it wasn't nice to say and go on with things. If my daughter says "stupid" she actually gets in trouble...my son isn't old enough to talk yet, but he will get the same deal.

I wouldn't touch their forums through 10 proxies and the deep net...what if I misspelled or mistyped, "Hey, look at this shirt!" and was showing off a pic of a funny BF3 t-shirt or something...I would get banned from all of my origin games.
