In a couple of years when Battlefront 3 gets released, the cycle is going to continue. It might not even be in 2 years time. I would not be surprised at all of Battlefield 2018 has exactly the same microtransaction system.
This happens to a certain small percentage of PS3 users nearly every Patch. My old 80G Fat unit got the Red Light of Death after one such update. Which occured right after they updated their encryption following that hacker that exposed their lazy encryption coding back then , it basically smoked my unit. Again most updates just haven't Bricked this large of a user base.
I decided to give all my beloved games away to the local Fire Station & my Secretaries grandson, who got the motherload of 30+ top games. The boy refers to me as God.

This is what I am wondering "its just as simple as downloading it to a usb and flashing.." <---- that requires some technical expertise that, and I'm sorry to offend our brothers here, most console gamers do not possess. Hence why they own a console.
Sony just hurt themselves in the next gen console war and MS didn't even have to fire a shot.
If sony released a way to flash back to stable fireware on USB, I'm sure hackers will quickly figure out something... I can't see sony doing this.
