My laptop is 4.5 times as powerful as the Xbox One and has all the marketing flops. Flops for days. Even my bag has more than 6 floppy parts on it. =\

Phil Spencer is an idiot.

Microsoft is using the lack of knowledge of the average gamer to its advantage in their marketing parlance. "6 teraflops of GPU power" sounds like a lot on paper but it honestly doesn't mean anything...

Consider that an Intel Celeron G1830 and an R9 295X2 produces 11.5 TFLOPS for under a grand (Jan 2015) and still isn't very capable for 4K gaming. Do they honestly expect their box to output 3840x2160 at 60 frames per second? Not likely. But it's over a year away and with plenty of tech development until then, I guess we'll see.

Truth be told, the memory bandwidth seems rather limited. I would have expected HBM2 integration at this point...

HBM2 is probably way too expensive for a console still. That bandwidth should be plenty for it, I think; it's not like its packing a full Vega.

No, 4k gaming. It's not going to do 4k60 at ultra, obviously, but that much GPU power can easily handle 4k with settings lowered.

I guess to expect what would usually be higher settings than console on PC would show up in some games on the Scorpio and some games just opting to to run the Xbox One S/base version at a higher res or framerate or both. Maybe the wealthier studios and publishers will be willing to create significantly higher quality assets that would be enabled in the Scorpio version which would be a nice boon to the PC versions.

Unfortunately for Microsoft, they don't have any good exclusives (other than ReCore) to make me come back. And if Xbox Anywhere comes to every future release, there'll be zero incentive for any of us to want one of these. I'm just glad we'll start to get more demanding games to be honest. And hopefully they'll be properly optimized this time around since cross-platform play is a thing, finally.

The thing is that Xbox Anywhere turns the Xbox unit itself into a much more effective version of the Steam Machine. If you can't afford a supercomputer like us overspending fools, you buy the nextbox one or whatever they call it, because it'll be way cheaper and can play any games your PC can without any of the effort involved in making or choosing a PC.

You buy it, any games you buy for it with the Xbox logo on the box are guaranteed to work. It's the promise of the Steam Machine with execution that makes sense.

Then how would games created for it be backwards compatible with XB1?

From the interview I read, they're just going to lower the quality of the graphics on the newer games, and eventually phase out support of the oldest models. It's not like this doesn't already happen in PC gaming--how many games today support PCs that were made to the minimum spec of Windows XP?

I wonder if 1080p @ 120fps will work on monitors that support it over hdmi 2.0? I'm betting there's some other limitation that keeps that from happening (probably game engines having physics tied to the refresh rate), but that would be cool if you could play older Xbone games at 1080p@120fps.

Games would still be 30fps (probably with drops depending on the developer). Most older Xbone games won't run at 60/120 fps either. They will run at 30 fps, but a more stable 30 fps. Pretty much all games have a cap coded into them, and I doubt many developers are going to patch older games to run at higher frame rates on the Xbox One Scorpio.

First impressions are the most important, and the first impression that anyone gets with any game is always graphics. Because of this, devs choose better graphics over playable frame rates. A good example of this is Uncharted 4. They said from the start that it was going to be 60fps, then they suddenly changed to 30 fps so they can have a better looking game.

Like I said in my post, I wonder if it would work for older Xbone games. I'm well aware that they'll have all games target 30-60fps (which I hate that 60fps minimum isn't basically required at this point).
