When we think about the release period for any Zelda game, we really want to get it out as soon as possible so that everybody can play and experience it,” series producer Eiji Aonuma told me during an interview in Los Angeles last week. “But every time we make a Zelda, we want to make something new. It’s hard to gauge how long that’s going to take. And it’s also hard to gauge at what point whatever we consider to be new is done.

In other words it's called polishing a game and putting the current mindset of most developers "release it in what might as well be beta, apologize for the mess, say you are working on it, maybe patch it and let's make some money right NOW"

Imagine if this mind set was across the board (release when its done)? We'd have a much healthier industry. Game developing at its purest is an art form and not solely just some sterol product to sell to the masses. Then again, when the men who created Mario and Zelda request more development time, are you really going to say 'no'? tongue.gif

Zelda games are sweet, Ocarina of time still beats most games these days, the story was great.

Looking at the state of most hyped games Zelda games are never late, they're just released when finished like a game should be. UBISOFT on the other hand sets release dates based on when they feel like they should start earning money from a project.

Just to show the flip side of the "polishing" excuse, you have games like Duke Nukem Forever, which get stuck in development hell because they always want to polish it a little more.

Granted, people have actually played Breath of the Wild in its unfinished state. If this game was as fail as DNF, we'd know by now.

I think the Zelda games get delayed a little more than necessary, but I do wish the game industry would adopt this approach. Too many times in recent years have developers released games that are barely functioning. The latest example of this is Umbrella Corps. I really wanted to play this game and was looking forward to it, but after reading reviews describing it as being "Pre-alpha at best" I guess I won't. It's definitely not worth $30.

Games like Duke Nukem Forever and the exception and not the rule tough.
Remember that a lot of stuff happened during the developing of that nonsense, including a certain developer that was also involved with another great example of a mess called Alien Colonial Marines.
