Hello

I am planning to build my first water cooling setup in near future, but before I will order all the stuff needed, I would like to discuss some things with OCN community.

This is my RIG to start with:

Intel Core i7 4790k @ 4.7 Ghz
ASUS Z97i Plus
Noctua NH-U12S
Crucial BalistiX 8GB 1600 Mhz
Samsung 840 Pro 512 GB
Corsair AX860
EVGA GeForce GTX980 /w reference blower cooler
BitFenix Prodigy

Firstly I would like to know if my prefered WC components are fine or if I should make some change to them. Here they are:

GPU block:

RAD:

RES + PUMP:

Fittings:

Tubing:

Coolant:

I want to WC only the GPU atm so bear that in mind please smile.gif

Anyhow, I have some other questions that I need ask.

1) Whats routing would you advice for me in such case as is BitFenix Prodigy ?

Here is a picture of what I am thinking now. O = outlet I = inlet

2) Tubings come in 1m lenght. What if I don't want to use all the 1m, can I normaly cut it for whatever distance I needed it with some sharp knife ? Or is there some problem ?

3) When should I fill my reservoir and how I know that the whole loop is filled properly - i mean there are lines on reservoir for MIN / MAX but I think that when I would fill it for the first time and that I will plug it in and start it, the whole loop will fill up and the level of coolant in reservoir will drasticly go down.

4) Any other warnings for novice like me ? smile.gif I am workings with PC for almost 10 years now but water cooling has always been a teritory which scares me, so I don't want to damage something.

Thank you very much for the help and your time.

Lukas

Cooling one 980 with a single 120 rad will work since they generate little heat, but you will need 2 good fans in push-pull config. Doing so may not result in much fan noise reduction if that is an aim. If you intend to OC the 980 significantly...
A single 240 rad with 2 high-pressure and quiet fans would do better if you can fit it in your case. The Cougar 120mm fans do very well in that configuration.
Other than that, the rest of your kit looks great. thumb.gif

yes, you can cut the tubing with sharp scissors or a razor blade. just make a straight cut and don't underestimate the length you need for your first build (good to have a bit extra just in case smile.gif )
