Sorry for your loss if you do have to reformat.
peerguardian is not a firewall.... A quote from them...http://phoenixlabs.org/pg2/faq/

Can PeerGuardian replace my firewall?

No! PeerGuardian has been heavily optimized for what it needs to do and is _not_ a replacement for your firewall.

I use windows firewall and have not had any problems, I hate how resource hoggy zonealarm is. As long as you arent stupid on what sites you go to windows firewall is fine

Here are some programs to try:
Ad-Aware Se Personal
Spybot S&D
Avast
Avg Anti Virus
Windows Defender
Spyware Doctor(it is very good but you have to pay)

also you should try running these in safe mode, much better results.

There are many others but these are the ones I say are the best, try these then report back to use.

Um if it is a fresh install of Windows why not just format then setup all the preventative measures that everyone is suggesting. It would seem that would give you the least amount of trouble. ( also try using Firefox 2 it has built in spell check >,>)
