Hi, I've got a new PC build I just completed. It's only my 2nd build. I'm wondering what the best order is for installing drivers, security software, etc. after installing Windows 10 clean?

- motherboard drivers (newest downloaded from manufacturer's site)
- Windows 10 updates
- anti-virus + firewall software

Also since I want to install the Gigabyte APP Center software some of the functionality requires the BIOS is updated to the most recent version, so I've got the newest BIOS ready in case the motherboard shipped with an older BIOS. Not sure when I should update the BIOS but it needs to be before I install the APP Center software so I figure that should come after the motherboard drivers and Windows updates are in place?

I'd appreciate any tips on what to do first.

Check out sean's ssd install guide on this site... He goes the the proper steps to set up a ssd after a new instal. If your not using a ssd you can still use his tips for instal and it tells which ones apply only to hhdd...

Thanks - I'll definitely be referring to that guide as I go. My only other question is it recommends installing antivirus/firewall last, after Windows update. Is it safe to be running my new PC without any antivirus or firewall for the first hour or so that it takes to install all the Windows updates? During the time I install drivers and updates my PC will be unprotected.

Me personally? I install antivirus last because it can be cause issues sometimes when installing a bunch of different programs. As long as your not surfing the web and downloading risky content then you will be fine to run it without protection for awhile while you set it up... I do atleast

That makes sense. I certainly won't be surfing until everything is all set up, and I already have all my drivers downloaded on my 2nd drive ready to install. Thanks!

I always do drivers first (chipset, network, gpu, etc), then windows updates, then java, flash, reader, etc then AV. As others have said, don't surf until everything is updated and AV is installed.
