I'll try to open it up but it seem to be all but easy, what "brand name" laptop are easy to take apart...
I was thinking, IF I changed it, to use it like a laptop I'm move around outside the house (go to friends, co-worker, office etc) and/or like backup laptop to do testing...
I believe I'll have to take it apart and try to see where the damage are and get used to the burning smell (should go out eventually)...
Most of them are relatively simple, just make a map of where the screws go and you'll be fine... Take your time and it's pretty simple tbh, just because it's smaller doesn't mean it's harder
Yea...
I try to find a guide how to take it apart... until now I didn't found anything.
If someone has a guide to dissemble the a Toshiba A500 series I would like to have a copy.
I've took apart my laptop and didn't found any burn / destroyed parts, just a lot of dust in the heat sink... the only part that was smelling "burn" is in my card reader (that I don't use).
Toshibas are notorious to have hardware just randomly fail on a whim, but luckily it will keep working. I would know because I had all of the USB ports burn up on an A135, and I am typing on a Toshiba L305D with a completely broken LCD panel, that also has a damaged VGA port which is really strange because it was never even used until now...
If its something that you can live without, don't worry too much but if anything else strange happens, I would have someone inspect the mobo.
1st one HDD controller issue or hard drive issue (never knew what was in cause, I suspect the HDD controller) after 2 years.
2nd one... still working fine, slow but 0 issues..
3rd on, this one, this weird issue...
The Mobo is, visually, good; I repair / test boards at my office (not at full time) and didn't saw any indication of burn or damaged component... Time will tell how this laptop will work.
1 thing for sure I'll push myself to clean the heat sink more often!
