The raspberry pi is very capable.. what do you want to stream though, movies off a home server or from online resources such as netflix, youtube etc? Streaming 1080p @ 24Hz from a local server isn't a problem and XMBC has a youtube app so it should handle that but I've not actually tried it.
I don't think they would do a very good job maybe will be fine with SD video but would have a hard time with HD video. I started looking into the little android boxes to replace my htpc but I don't think there quite to that level yet now looking into the Intel nuc
I used to have a MK808 + Melee F10 air mouse/remote
Did a little streaming with plex, ran games well etc, it was pretty good once I'd flashed a custom rom, it's been a while since I sold it though and there are probably better options now, I would avoid the Mk802, has known wifi issues among other things.
