However, I want to use it with my chromebox which seems impossible due to all this jargon about requiring DVI-D and a dedicated graphics card from the cute charts on the eBay listings.
I've heard mentions on the forums of some sort of adapter? Another eBay listing refers to an ad-board? The eBay link above, as one of the images, refers to something that might be the ad-board?
It seems like some of the catleaps have HDMI and DVI and VGA, which looks promising for a laptop or chromebox. However, a catleap like this one (I don't want to buy it, too expensive, just an example) has a line about having a passthrough board (implying only DVI) whereas one of the pictures shows HDMI and VGA.
What's the deal? Will I be able to use a QNIX with my chromebox or laptop?
The Chromebox has two dedicated DisplayPort++ ports which can be passively/directly DVI-D Dual Link. I bought the monitor. DP++ supports this type of output inherently, so it should work. What do you think?

I don't know all the details(mainly because i think very little of chromebooks) but the first i hear of someone somehow getting it to work i will let you know. As for right now i have to agree with Kevin, it is just not going to work and if you somehow got it to work it likely would not work well at all(definitely no overclocking). With that being said you might want to go with a Korean version that has a scaler and HDMI port(unless you already purchased).
Even if you could MAKE it work the cost, time and potential downgrades in quality would be worth just spending the extra 100 bucks and getting one with an HDMI port.

There aren't any quality drawbacks, more logistics and usage drawbacks. DP->DL-DVI adapters are notoriously finicky and somewhat unreliable in operation. Many Mac Mini owners have tried this, and while it works, it doesn't work all the time. There's sleep issues, display corruptions, just plain not waking up. None of them are lasting issues; a cold reboot usually fixes them, but it is annoying.
