Hello all, recently I purchased a whole bunch of mice, I'm starting a collection for *****s and giggles.
I just purchased some Microsoft mice off of Ebay: IME 3.0, IO 1.1a, WMO (Probably all Chinese knock offs, but they seem to perform well, just the build quality is pretty sub par).
Now since they are cheap and nasty, I plan on doing some mods to them, like fixing the loud-ish mouse-clicks, and the loose mouse wheel, opening them up and checking for excess weight.
I also plan on giving them paint jobs, and I had this idea of trying to mimic the rubberized coating that the Zowie EC1-AM-FK/Sensei Raw come with.
Now my question to you fine guys and gals, is what options are out there for me to try? I've just discovered Plasti Dip, but am not sure where to get in Australia, and whether or not its suitable for a mouse, what other rubberized paint coatings are there available for me to experiment with? anyone have experience with trying to do something similar?
Any suggestions/ideas and advice would be greatly appreciated.
Auto parts places over here sell a sort of rubberized under coating that comes in spray cans. It's used to help keep your car from rusting out. That might work.
Aside from that, maybe truck bed liner (also available here at auto parts places in spray cans in various colors). Whatever you use, just make you rough up the surface of the plastic really well first or you'll be reapplying really soon.
Thanks for the prompt reply, I will have to go to my local Auto store(s) and buy some of these and give them a try, I'm wondering most how the texture of them will feel in my hand, because I don't mind the stock smooth gloss coat that the this IME 3.0 has, it just tends to make my hand perspire, which is a bit of a bother for me, I wonder if anyone on OCN has given this a shot before?..
Hmmm That's something to take into consideration as well, depending on how well my rubber coating experiments go, I could try this idea on one of the other mice, the WMO or 1.1a.

Not sure about the rust prevention unless you mean a different product; but Plastidip works from my experience, plus no commitment/regret if you don't like it as it peels right off
The best way I can explain it, is if done properly is more of a smooth, slightly textured feeling. Grippy but not sticky, I can best put it. From your first post you want more of a smooth rubber feeling like the Zowie FK or Steelseries Sensei RAW; I'd equate that more to the Corsar M40/M6x and Coolermaster Storm Recon Mice, which I actually did not like; made it feel like my hand was slipping around when moving the mouse instead of being planted on where I placed it.

Ahh I see..thank you for the descriptive response, I am keen to give it a try, I knew I wouldn't of been able to mimic the coating they use on Zowie/Steelseries mice perfectly, I don't mind the sounds of how you have described it though, I should be interesting to have a bit of variation in the feeling of my mice.
