Alright here's the deal. I bought this sapphire 3870 from a user here at OCN and the bios were already flashed. Now I'm giving this card to a friend of mine who is less than knowlegable about pc. I want to put the stock bios back on this card. I have been through a few guides and have gotten close but its no quite working.

So this is how far I have gotten, I have downloaded the bios as a .bin file and renamed them to "newbios.bin". Next I made my USB flash drive a bootable version with Dos using HPUSBFW. Next I extracted the winflash program on the usb drive and added the dirver. Then I booted to DOS and tried this command : "atiflash -p -f 0 newbios.bin" this yeided a bad name or file error. so I typed in DIR and saw that the atiflash was listed as "atifla~1.exe" , so I typed that in and got this error " This program does not work with DOS" so I'm not sure if I got the right version of winflash or what ?

atiflash -f -p 0 newbios.bin

-f needs to come before -p

I'm pretty sure you could just format the flash drive with HP flash utility or whatever it's called to make it bootable and then throw ATIflash on there with the BIOSes you need. Extract DOS.rar and POint the utility to these files- - when it asks.

Should work -- works for me.

You shouldn't need winflash -- just ATIflash.

i use freedos and burn it to a CD

Download the full CD, and then when it starts up, just do livecd. I have it installed on hard drive for flashing, but livecd works fine.

I just don't understand what I'm doing wrong, i've tried 3 different dos types and 3 flash programs all yeilding the same result. The only thing I've noticed is that the "atiflashbios" command isn't valid in my "dir" the file is called atifla~1.exe and when I type that in it says, "this cannot be run in DOS mode" . I don't know, but it seems like a simple proceadure but I'm just not getting it.....

Call me and I'll walk you through it. I have flashed many cards. PM me if you want my number.

Edit:

I always use Winflash and one of the bios files found at Techpowerup, here is the link.

Winflash:

I'm gonna go with rename the "atifla~1.exe" to something with 8 or less characters and give it a go. DOS needs 8 character files names IIRC.
