As I browse on the forums, everyone seems to cling onto the newest and greatest thing. I see 2500k here and 920 there. It makes me sad that our days are getting numbered.
For those of you who are still running on 775, whether it is P4 or Quad, how long do you intend to keep your system? Do you still upgrade it like I do, or are you just keeping it as it is until its days are over? I just ordered a UD3P and finally plan on OCing this chip after 5 long years.
My initial system:
E6400
WD 250GB HDD
Gigabyte GA-965P-S3
4x1GB Corsair value select RAM
Some crap thermaltake 500W PSU that blew then my Raidmax 730W
BFG Geforce 7600 GT OC
Coolermaster Centurion 532
Samsung Syncmaster 19"
Progression over the years.:
E6400 OCed to 3.6
WD Caviar Black 1TB
Hyper 212+
UD3P
2x2GB G. Skill 1066
Mushkin Enhanced Joule 1200W
MAYBE Windows 7
HIS HD 4870 512mb
Lian Li PC-9FB
Asus VW266H
There really is no sense in upgrading if you don't have to. You might as well just save that money up until you actually need an upgrade and get what you can at that point in time.
Have my q6600 still. It's been nice, but need more power in some games and programs. Want to run SLI too. So will prolly be upgrading around summer for 2600k, p67, 8/12 gb, and 2 560 Ti's in SLI.
And my case is pissing me off, need a new one lol.

Got it from a user on here. hehe. The only problem I had with purchasing it was that he replaced the stock northbridge heatsink for an aftermarket one. I don't know why he did that, but I really hope it doesn't get in the way when I mount the 212+.
I'm contemplating on getting a SB build of some sorts sometime next year, but I'm not entirely sure. The way my computer runs now is satisfactory, but I know I can use a little boost.
I have 2 775 systems one being my main gaming rig a couple months ago... and I plan on keeping it for friends who come over to play games until it just dies out
The only problem I have is that I promise my older brother that I would give him my computer next year. That was when I had no upgrades and it was basically a POS.

I think im the lowest end actual 24/7 775 user, every time i see someone with a 775 chip its either a Q6600 or Q95/650 or Q8300 and the worst is when i see E8400. Other than OP rocking an E6400 (which is still better than me) everyone else is got some good procs, im still rocking the lowest end pentium dual core E5200 FTW.
I've been on an E8400 for about 3 years now, and I don't plan on upgrading any time soon. There are better things to be looking at... like watercooling.

I own an i5 750 and an E5300 in 2 different rigs. The performance outside of benchmarks and games is very similar. I don't think I'll need to upgrade my other rig in a while
I have 4 EP45-UD3P boards (2.5 completed out of that). I think that this is a good board and cpu combo to really learn overclocking on. I was shocked at both todays low price for DDR3 and high price for DDR2.I recently paid 90.00 for 2x2gbDDR2 1200 but looked on newegg and found 3x2gbCorsair for 119.00.
I hope to sell a few completed units for a bit of profit perhaps.
Still run my Q6600 probably going to throw it on water and overclock it more, then buy a qx6700 and try for 4.0ghz and install the q6600 in my secondary pc.
Hell, I can sell you guys my last 775 rig, to keep the flame going! No seriously, I still have a Pentium 3 rig sitting in the corner. I just fired her up to reminisce...LOL! I think Sandy Bridge is the only choice coming from a 775 now, unless your into snagging a 1156/1366 used rig. For most, a 775 rig still works great IMO.
