Hello, this is the first time on this site so forgive me if I am in the wrong place.

I am going to ordering parts for a new build I want to put together. I am having problems deciding on what I want, the I7 950 or the I7 940. I have read that you can get these to 4.0Ghz and that is what I intend on doing.

I will be using the Cooler Master V6 GT to cool it so I want to get the one with less need for a voltage increase. $1500 is the max price range I can go, so I cant go with water cooling.

I am also debating on getting the Asus Rampage III formula or the Asus Sabertooth. I have been siding with the Rampage but if I can save $70 that can always help.

For memory I have been looking at getting a CORSAIR Vengeance 12GB set. I have herd these being overclocked to 2000 at 9-10-9-24 timing.

Now for the video card I am going to get the MSI twin fan 560 ti. I have seen these being overclocked to 1Ghz so that the best bang for my buck. Later on I will SLI this card.

For the hard drive I am looking at the western digital 500 gig sata 6Gb/s. Not sure if I trust the 1T version but that could just be me. I already have a 500 gig hard dive so that is fine for me. If you know of any faster drives out there I would love to see them.

As of the case I am set of the Cooler Master HAF 932 case. I like the price and the amount of airflow in it. I will be making dust filters for it.

Stats I wish to get

CPU 4.0 Ghz

Memory 2000 9-10-9-24

GPU 1000/2000/2100

If you think this is possible with this set up let me know and if it is not tell me what I can change about it.

Forgot to say I am also looking to get a second monitor. It is 23" 5ms. A lot better then my 19 Asus i am using now.

This is only my second build so forgive me if there is anything that does not work. Don't bash me to bad

For the longevity of your gear, you do NOT want to run your memory at 2000mHz. Due to the way the Bloomfield memory controller works-you'll need 1.5V on QPI-DRAM to get it stable...that much voltage going through your CPU will damage it in short order.

I run my 2133 downclocked drastically (I got the memory cheap, so I don't mind), so my gear lasts.

Fail. My 920 only needs 1.34v QPI-DRAM for 2000mhz CAS 9. Even horrible IMCs shouldn't need anywhere close to 1.5v.

Anyway, between the 940 and 950, get the 950. The 950 is D0, the 940 is C0 only. 950s overclock much much better because of the stepping.

Really though, you should get SANDY BRIDGE. 1366 was a great platform, but 1155 is better for too many reasons to list, and it's not too much more money.

get 2000 speed ram or keep your ram at 1333 or 1600
2000 speed ram has LARGE heat sinks for a reason

also from all the processors i've played with the 920 was the best bang for buck if your going to oc. you can get 4.4 or 4.5ghz from it on water with no problems.
other than that I would goto a 970 for the 6 core
there is someone in the sell section of this forum with a 980x for 599.00
i'm still fighting the urge to buy it myself

Alright, so just running them stock is good.
