I think it's a little overpriced, considering the reviews haven't been that favorable. Let's see what Nvidia does when it releases the GTX 590. If it does how I think it will do, the 6990 will take a price drop very quickly
You pretty much answered your own question. Right now the 6990 is the fastest and most powerful GPU on the market, we'll see what Nvidia has to offer with their card. The price is obviously outrageous, but it could be a lot worse.
yeah i have the 6950 CF (unlocked)..... what a DEAL !!!!
If you look at the benchies, 6990 gets less FPS in most games than 6970 CF....
Interesting, now all i need is a case full of cocaine and a couple of hookers to complete my training - Charlie Sheeeeeeen - WE LOVE Joooooooooooooo !!!
Well the average one looks like around $730, and the average GTX 580 (previous fastest single GPU) goes for around $500. So that is a 46% increase in price but if it isn't a 46% increase in performance then it really isn't worth buying over a 580.
Also the average 6970 is $360 so x2 would be $720 which is roughly equal... which seems stupid to me. I would think at least they make the 2 6970's cheaper because they require more space, cause more heat probably, and leave no room to expand to another GPU so with all the disadvantages it should be much cheaper than going with the single GPU.
Although if this pricing holds up for Nvidia as well I guess we can expect to see the 590 at $1000? If so that would just be nuts.
Since when has the fastest-best-at-almost-everything parts ever been bargains? High end parts (in almost any markets) are rarely the best cost/performance buys. This is not new.
Also, it's priced right with 6970 Crossfire.

The price is fairly absurd considering the atrocious cooling performance and the fact you can simply just buy two 6950's for much less with comparable performance.
As the underdogs (yes im ati fan boi - but i realise we are not leaders...) I think that its an okay card, they HAD to do it, its just one of them things...
As for price vs performance, i shudder.... like is did at the ASUS ARIES... (how gay was that)....

it should have cost $590-$650 max. i hope nvidia undercuts the price of this card. seriously do. if they do then i don't care if it's as hot as two 480s, i'll buy it.
Of course HD 6990 isn't supposed to have the same price/performance as a GTX 460.
But in comparisong to HD 6950 unlocked, I think it's not worth it.
