Yes taking a picture is the only way to show the problem, because it seems to be a physical problem with the monitor, not the source (laptop). The white spots are the actual problem, not light from my camera flash. I could use my DSLR to take a better picture but those show the problem well enough. Bumping the monitor making it worse could be part of it, since I move my monitor around my desk multiple times a day (gaming reasons) although carefully. Knowing "backlight...
There are large patches of green/blue specks mixed inside white/lighter-coloured areas on my 2nd monitor (Samsung 24" model, about 3 years old), and the problem has been slowly spreading over the screen. You don't notice it too much (although it's getting worse) when the image is bright, but against a black background as in the images below, you can really see the problem. I have no idea what to call this, so Googling has turned up nothing that's actually related to my...
... Well that would be just beautifully perfect for me. Too bad it's not going to come out anywhere near soon enough. Anyone have any experience with MSI laptops and optical bay caddies though?
Well, I just found out that mSATA would void any warranty on a laptop. Only switching out the optical drive will let me get an SSD and keep the warranty. (is this correct?) The Y580 is sold out and it's hard to tell when it'll be restocked, so I was thinking more MSI GE60 after boosting up budget. Does anyone know if something like this caddy will fit and allow me to stick in the original 750GB HDD?
Did you have many issues with an optical drive HDD? I personally wouldn't mind a slower HDD so much, I'm most concerned about the SSD performance. So, is mSATA really all that reliable? The Y580 should have 6Gbps and take the full potential of the Mushkin, but how much output does the mSSD actually give...? Update: Are these legit?...
I'm planning to purchase a Lenovo Y580 tomorrow, but this version, so I need to supply an SSD myself. I was originally thinking to get this http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226320 And stick in the mSATA slot, and be done with it. My other option would be to purchase something like Crucial M4 128GB (price matched to $99), order an optical bay hard drive caddy off Amazon, (there's no local stores that carry any) Replace the main HDD with the M4, and...
I meant "bad" if I kept just the SSD in there with no permanent HDD to support it. That would be terrible for the SSD. Yeah I just found out today that I could do the whole optical drive thing. I don't usually have much use for DVDs. But I have no idea what to search up to find a optical HDD caddy for laptops. I can't find them at all... I think I found them, but it's like $30. Would be more expensive than v v v that option. The Mushkin would be kind of less of a...
I can PM to this then, $15 more, no biggy. I'm looking for the cheapest SSD I can find, and I was thinking something like this Agility 3, because I'm planning on buying this tomorrow, before school starts.... Or maybe something else? I do feel like the 580 will be a decent choice. Except, are you sure it does have an extra drive? I don't see any details whatsoever about it. Wait, mSATA SSD? I can't even get them at NCIX. Replacing the main HDD with an SSD would be just...
I fear the single channel bottleneck though (yes I know it's still better than dual 2x2GB). To buy the y580 I would pricematch this to PC Canada or something. But are there any differences between that and Newegg's version other than the RAM and a 64GB SSD? I also can't tell if the cheaper version has an open mSATA slot or not.
Y580 is ~$1100 on Newegg, way over budget And the $850 version is 6GB mem. @_@ I was looking at this recently cause it's on great sale (second week in a row, raised suspicions) http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=68127&vpn=08626KU&manufacture=Lenovo&promoid=1084 How would it compare with http://ncix.com/products/?sku=73454&vpn=NX%2EM0AAA%2E002&manufacture=Acer
