Agreed with the above opinion about overclocking. My result has been 4.6 @ 1.288 volts, which seems rather good. 4.8 just wasn't stable with speed-step enabled, and I wanted that. For my purposes, I'm happy having upgraded from a 1090T @...
The last time I ran into this type of situation, it was for the new Thuban CPUs in April of 2010, and Newegg sent mass emails out. I just happened to wake up early that day, saw it, and ordered on the spot...it's been a pretty darn good...
Update on this: I've spent some time trying more BIOS models, and checking them with RBE. I was able to get the unlocked Asus BIOS on the card without it failing (as it had before), and the clocks were unlocked. Voltage is still grayed...
I would say it's reference, as the cooler is the radial flow fan (squirrel cage) toward the far end, and the power connectors are on the side edge (not the end, as I've seen in non-reference designs). Afterburner won't allow voltage...
Yes, I know these cards usually came with a Volterra chip to control GPU voltage. I owned an HIS 5850 reference not long ago, and found one of these 5870 cards in NOS for cheap. It arrived today, and came with an older reference BIOS....
Yeah, I soon discovered that. I want the chip to idle more appropriately, so it was moved back to 4.6 @ 1.288 volts, LLC @ 4, and .+02V offset. It's been pretty solid, and I'm happy enough with that. Maybe for a benchmark run I'll toy...

I don't think so. Gigabyte would be the better source to ask, but I believe very few boards have that capability just yet...give it time, and a generation or two.
I'm still playing with mine (have not had much time to really use it). I was getting 4.4 on 1.24 volts. Now I'm getting this: http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=2127646 No idea if it's entirely stable yet (has been on Prime blend...
