I'd say go for the latest tech, plus you'd be upgrading your socket (which intel will probably roll with few a couple gens, if we're lucky) so you wouldn't need to upgrade your mobo next cpu upgrade.
who cares, cod4 is still available to play so all other cods just make me chuckle. Yes I still play and love cod4. #HatersGonnaHate
is there any other device you can connect to your router and test the connection with? Is there any other internet you can connect to? maybe tether from your mobile phone? test for packet loss on both of these

if you have multiple ethernet ports on your motherboard, I think you do, maybe try using another one? Long shot but it's easy to try
