So stupid question here: With universal GPU block do I remove the aluminum plate covering the vram and what not?

Okay I hate to bring up a 2 year old thread but I feel ripped off. I bought a brand new EK res. Took it out of the box. Rinsed with rubbing alcohol and boom. Started spider webbing and literally cracking apart. WHAT IS THIS?????
