I was wondering if a GPU could act as the southbridge interpreting mouse input to the northbridge. The idea would be for the GPU to interpret mouse movement to increase the efficiency of preloading new textures or in tesselation...

Yea, they might have issues with a few things but they have one of the best RMA policies and implementations I have used or heard of. Not to mention most companies have relatively close failure rates.

Only difference is shielding. A digital signal can still be disrupted just like anything else electrical. However this only matters over long distances past any sort of high power electronics.
