Well i spoke to him earlier and he's unwilling to spend any money on it xD Think i'll try the recovery disc method and see what that does. If that does nothing then i guess he's stuck with it til it breaks.

Currently has 2GB of ram. I very much doubt he'd be willing to upgrade the ram tbh. What about the drivers though? Such as for the screen, wifi etc. Will windows 7 just install generic drivers for such an oldish laptop?

Decided to give the CM Recon a shot. Suitable for both claw and palm grip, and it seems like a short, stubby mouse, which i prefer. Seems to have received pretty good reviews also.

Just ordered the QCK. Just so happens my scroll wheel is now squeaking like a mofo now Gonna RMA it, sell it and geta different mouse. Any suggestions for a nice claw grip mouse? Love the G9x, but had the same problem with 3 of them.
