The pre-applied TIM will work just fine. I used it until I got and installed dwood's bracket. My temps did go down when I installed the bracket (using good 'ol arctic silver), but I attribute that more to better mounting than to the TIM.
You can put it in the 3.5" bay on the bottom if you aren't already using it. I have mine suspended using bungie cord in the 5.25" bay, which helps keep it quiet (but with more risk of damage if the case is moved).
