I would keep the i3 and sell the i5 because you are not going to benefit from having a faster CPU and the better integrated graphics in the Ivy Bridge i3 is going to help decoding Blurays and such.

I would have to say that my worst case ever was the IBM NetVista/Thinkcentre (tower style). I have had a few of these PC's that often came with 1.4 to 1.8Ghz Pentium 4. The power supply was not mounted on the top or bottom of the case....
