When I go to install a game, steam gives me an option to install to a different drive. Is there any difference between just installing to a different drive through steam and this?

Do you need to install the Intel RST drivers if you're not using raid? Can anyone point me to which one I should download, intel has a few different choices with the same version number? I'm using the Asus p8z77-v pro and a Samsung 830...
