Also of interest (maybe) is that while windows defender, firefox and chrome crash constantly, I just played through a game of LoL and Skyrim for about 15 minutes (settings maxed, cpu didn't get above 29 C, beautiful) without it crashing...

I think you're confusing me, I ended up getting cpu and board from truckerguy, thanks though. So non-QVL RAM likely causing all of this?
I did mention before (sorry I'm posting a lot I know) that this ram is NOT on the QVL, though posts like http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/287331-30-memory-working make me think that's not the issue, but could that be causing all the...
I should note too that the cpu multiplier is jumping up and down even though, as you can see in the BIOS, I've set it to a discrete value. Prime95 is failing almost instantly.
