I will try this when I get home, but I also wanted to point out that when I tried to apt-get mesa-utils, it tells me that it is not available.
I got the ubuntu-desktop and 1.3GB later it still won't boot up into the GUI. It keeps failing when I try to start the xserver via "startx" by saying "no screens found". I then tried multiple updates apt-get update, upgrade, dist-upgrade...
