You'll need/want an extension cord that terminates in a 3.5 mm connector. The PRO550 out of the box comes with a long cable that terminates in a 6.3 mm.
I do not recommend portable use due to the size of the headphone.
The D2X is not as versatile as the DX and actually isn't much of an improvement over the DX/D1. The PRO550 terminates in a 6.3 mm plug which would go best with the STX but the DX/D1 is honestly fine for the PRO550.
