Crap, I didn't realize the site resized the photos. The original is 8192x6998. Oh well. If you have an interest in the full-resolution version,...

First Water Cooling Attempt diary photos

These are my "diary" photos while building my first water cooled rig.

Note the 2011 back plate which is permanently attached (and for which the CPU water block I purchased did not have the proper screws!)
Dec 11, 2011
Even though the instructions said to use the bottom back plate for the 2011 socket, it cannot be done since there is already a permanent back plate for the socket and it is not the same thread.

So far I do not like this reservoir. Due to its design it is very difficult to empty (the in and out are both in the center of the reservoir, leaving half the water inaccessible to drain. I plan to switch this out.

This is Photoshopped to combine two different views, I am only installing one radiator in my build.

I thought 12 feet would be way overkill, but I have less than 4 feet left. When I redo the reservoir I will likely use the remaining tubing.

I only used 4 in the end and really only *needed* 3 (the fourth went in the bottom drive cage, but I have no drives in there yet.

I modded these so that they will fit three abreast on the radiator. I figured having the air from the fans all directed through the radiator would be more efficient. It certainly works well enough, but I have not run any tests without them. I definitely do not need any kind of shroud with these in place. There are photos below showing the radiator with fans and beamair connected.

Excellent bag for extra modular connectors.

This was leak testing the first water cooling design. Look for my build diary to learn why this was not the way I went in the end.

The wiring. The fan wires and the temperature sensor wires make it look very spaghetti-like. My only real goal was that the back plate went on easily. Read my build log for locations of sensors, etc.

Water Cooling, second design, high resolution. See my build diary for the reason why there is a second design.
