So I had a panic today when I realized there has been as5 sitting in two different clumps underneath my CPU for the past several months. After a solid hour of freaking out about how the hell I was going to clean those tiny little pins without damaging something, I figured out a perfect solution.
1) Take a toothbrush, make sure it is very clean with soap and water. 2) Rinse very thoroughly with water to get off the soapy contaminants. 3) Get a bottle of at least 70% Isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol. 4) Dip the toothbrush in the alcohol and lightly rub it across CPU pins, it may take a couple minutes, but you will definitely notice the compound coming off. I imagine this solution works for everything though, whether it be thermal compound or something else you decide to throw in your computer. 5) Grab a blowdryer, and make sure all the cracks and crevices in your motherboard or on your CPU have been thoroughly dried before putting it back in. The temperatures induced by the blowdryer are nothing compared to running 5 minutes of prime95, so dont worry. Hope this helps somebody out there, Graham p.s. I have recently discovered that toothbrushes and rubbing alcohol are a good way to clean lots of things including: 1) Bottoms of HDT heatsinks. 2) Dusty fans. 3) Gingivitis

Great guide, very useful and you deserve rep but: is against the TOS. Just so you don't get infraction I suggest you take that off.

I will revise it, however, to make it less blunt.

No where does it say: reminding to leave rep is allowed. There's a fine line between "asking" and "reminding" and quite a few admins don't like either way. It's not worth the risk. Trust me, I speak from experience. I suggest you keep the word "rep" out of your posts, but ultimately that's up to you. Just trying to save you from getting an infraction is all. Especially because I got my first one ever today on something really insignificant (Signature is too big). These people will hunt you down and call you out on anything they can find (even things you don't know).
