I find a thin line across the die is one of the best ways.

With IC7, you cannot do that very easily at all. Go buy some and see for yourself. This stuff is thicker than freaking toothpaste!

Crrappp... I lifted my heat sink to see if it was spread evenly then set my heatsink down again. Do you think its alright? I'm using a megahalem and the spring screws are at their tightest. Will there be air pockets, or will it even out after I use it for awhile?

Yes, there will still be air pockets. They will not even out sadly.... Go and reapply it and not lift it up. It will still do fine just the way you have it but you will not have to full effect of IC7. I noticed that when I reseated my heat sink and had a good seat, my temps dropped 2C!

I put a straight line across the CPU. This was before I knew this guide existed. Today I did run the heatsink without a ran and ran a quick stress test and wiggled the heatsink around a bit. I'm still worried about the air pockets though. I kind of wish I wasn't worried about how evenly it was setting. Becasue when I lifted it up to see how it was set it was REALLY even. I guess when I put the fans on I'll see how the temps are then I'll think about resetting the heatsink with a fresh glob of IC7.

It should be fine but you will have about 1-2C better temps with proper application. Do not kill yourself worrying about it too much. If your surfaces are really falt (which they are better than what I have) yous should be fine. It is not like your going to turn on your CPU and it is going to explode. You may have some higher temps (anywhere between 1-5C) but nothing dramatic.

Does the twisting side to side work? I know with as5 and other thin TIMs it's bad to do this.
