Well if you only have $200 and this is for gaming mostly than I would say the best bang for your buck is an Athlon II X3. It is clocked at 2.9Ghz, OC's to about 3.6Ghz, and has three cores, all for about $90. Then just buy one of many great AM3 boards for ~$100, like the Gigabyte 790GX-UD4P, and bang, you are all set for some great, budget gaming.

Well if you keep that mobo, get a E8400. If AMD, do something like:
Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...8376&Tpk=ma770 CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...9&Tpk=x3%20720 Then you could eventually upgrade the GPU later.

Yo dawg, I heard you like the Xiggy 1283 and you got AMD. So I got you a custom bolt-thru kit so you can properly cool your CPU while you properly cool your CPU. Review/Comparison: AMD Athlon X2 7750 BE vs. AMD Phenom II X4 940 BE 3DMark06: 16685 3DMark Vantage: 10149

Also, to the guy who recommended you get a new cpu for your current board I wouldn't recommend it. It may be 775 but there is probably some chipset incompatibility stopping you from going 45nm Core 2 Duo, which would be the only dual core to make sense for you. I say upgrade your platform, go AM3. My buddy recently got a Biostart (not great) and Phenom II X3 720(great proc) combo and he was able to unlock the 4th core and hit about 3.5Ghz. His machine is super fast.

According to XFX, the E8400 will work no problem with my motherboard.

EDIT: I would also like to say that I wouldn't even bother keeping your current motherboard, and upgrading CPU. Your motherboard is based off a poor overclocking chipset, so you'll be stuck at stock clocks or close to it with whatever CPU you buy. The combo listed above is exactly what I would do if I were in your shoes.
