Hi guys,
You can see my current system below in my signature. Q9450 Overclocked etc. I am thinking of buying an upgrade bundle: Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping (SLBEJ) 2.66Ghz overclocked to 4.00GHz Gigabyte EX58-UD5 Intel X58 (Socket 1366) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 (1600MHz) Tri-Channel Noctua NH-U12P SE1366 CPU Cooler I'd be keeping my Antec case, Corsair 750W PSU and Crossfire HIS 4870's. It's either a new system or just add another 4GB of RAM to my current system. PS im on Windows 7 now. Whats the general thoughts? Would I really see massive improvments?

If you're encoding, go for it. If you're not encoding, it's not really worth it IMO. Especially with a Q9450 @ 3.76GHz...

Add 4gb Ram you will be good If you really wanna upgrade. Than wait for i9 so you should see some heavy difference from your Quad.

Yeah I'm thinking it might not be worth spending £650 for the bundle to be honest.
I think i'd rather wait for a more powerful processor so that I see some bigger differences. I generally use my PC for gaming and also Adobe CS4 to program and design and I can run that fine at the moment. I might just grab some more RAM - however its £140 for another 4Gb of identical Corsair RAM.....not cheap to say its DDR2?

This has kinda answered my question as well. Cheers
I guess I shall be waiting until we are well into 2010 until I do a new build!

Ddr2 to ddr3 Transition has begun so ddr2 is going to cost more now. The prices here in India have almost doubled.

If you are gaming, you will not see much of an improvement over the previous quad. There are many articles online that support this, just search google for "core 2 quad vs i7," and you will see for yourself. As someone already stated, if you are encoding, you will notice.

DDR2 prices have skyrocketed over the last few months as DDR2 production drops and DDR3 production increases... however (and I'm not sure why) RAM prices across the board have gone up about 30% in the last two or three weeks.
