Arrow First System

My new system is in the system in the sig below. It's topping out at 22 fps when playing Crysis (original) at Very High settings with 8x AA. I was wondering if there is a driver issue or if it's just hardware.

I know I should overclock my stuff but I need to buy some coolers first and I've never done it before so I'm a little nervous so save that for later

Also I'm looking into upgrading a piece or two for Christmas. I know the hard drive isnt good but from what I understand that is only useful for load times and doesnt affect FPS much at all. So if there are one or two easy upgrades please post your suggestions

You should be over 30 with a 920 and a 5870 but almost all the benchmarks for this overclock the 920 to close to 4Ghz.

The only thing i can see that would affect performance this much is the CPU not being overclocked, sorry its not the answer you were looking for :/

No single GPU system ran run Crysis on Very High at a playable level (IIRC this is still true)

Get a second 5870. Also... get a WD Caviar Black 2TB if you can afford it. Fast little thing. But if you can, overclock the 920 to at least 3GHz.

Hmmm.... you would be surprised how much the hard drive will affect it. I think you might wanna get a 640gb WD Black: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136298 or a seagate 7200.12:

Two questions:

1) would it be better to get a 5870x2 to go with my 5870 (assuming it comes out) or get another 5870 to SLI them?

2) Ive read conflicting things would it be better strictly for gaming to get 1 fast hard drive, 2 cheaper hard drives in Raid 0 or 1 SSD (i'd get a 64 gb to put windows and whatever game I would be playing on it)?

Thanks for all the help

O_O I think you'll be good with just a second 5870 I think you'll be plenty happy having a pair of them in Crossfire.

And secondly, I would go with a WD Black personally. Actually on new egg the WD black Caviar 750GB is the same price as the 500GB model. The 640 GB model is more expensive. Not entirely sure why. I swear I heard the WD Black Caviar 2TB is barely slower than a... I want to say it was a WD velociraptor.

Hm, I have no RAID 0 experience to speak of... but I want to put two of the 2TB drives into RAID 0 personally. ^_^

So, if nobody responds regarding RAID 0 I'll see if I can get my friend to advise you.
