Hey everyone, new here, but have used the info from this forum for a while now. Anyway, I'm having a little issue that I'm hoping you folks who are better at this than I can help me solve.
__________________Current Setup: C2D e6600 Rev B2 ASUS P5N32-sli si deluxe RAM: 2x512mb crucial ballistix ddr2-667, 1x1gb generic ddr2-800 Thermaltake 850w tr2 PSU 8800GTS I'm trying to do some mild overclocking here on this chip, and absolutely cannot get over 3.0ghz. At a FSB of 327, it's 100% stable, prime95 for 14hours. Anything over that, it won't post. I've tried taking every combination of ram, disabled most options in bios (speedstep, etc.) Tried vcore up to 1.45, and am stumped. This board runs nforce4 slix16. My temps are currently under 50C load with stock HSF. I've noticed my crucial ballistix wont go over 654mhz, not sure if that's just because it's holding 1:1, or if that's why I can't break 327. Any steps for eliminating which component is the issue here?

you have mixed ram - thats a nono
ram should be atleast 1066 mhz IMO dunno to much about your MOBO, I had that and it fried without even OCIng

Remove the generic RAM. RAM is cheap enough, you can get 4 GB for cheap, most likely.

I see. I removed it and ran just the 667mhz, which should technically get me to at least 333, correct? Or is my logic incorrect?

Agree with the above statement; mixing RAM is just bad. Mixing great RAM with generic crap ones is worse.
__________________You can honestly still do a lot of stuff on 2GB of RAM; just take out the generic RAM and you're all set for an OC! If you really do want 4GB, though, you can find some good 4GB kits here for $70 or so.

It should get you to 333 MHz, theoretically.

Ok, so I'm correct there. Should I be looking at this board or cpu now? Any surefire way to test each part? Thanks for the amazingly fast responses, by the way!

You could try lowering the memory multi's. Sometimes works for me. If at all possible, try a different low multi CPU on the board too.

Memory multis? I think I'm lost. I don't have another CPU, but I did try lowering my chips multiplier to 7 and 8, boots fine as long as that fsb is at or below 327... I'm wondering if this board just isn't jiving...
