Default i5 750 vs AMD 955

What are the differences, and how big of differences are they?? I plan to OC them both to around 3.5 ghz if possible... For gaming, is the difference negligible?

They should both be able to do 3.5Ghz without any problems. From what I've seen the i5 has more overclocking potential. In terms of gaming, I think it's safe to say a 750 will outperform the 955 (and even 965) in many situations, no shocking differences though.

750 & 860 compared to other CPU's there.

For Gaming the 750 and 955 will be equal the limiting factor will be the GPU you put with the chip. Personally if i were you id go for a 955 or 720BE if this is a gaming machine. Save yourself some money and buy a 5850 or two.

The i5 will stable at 4.0 Ghz easier then the 955 on air. They're quite similar for gaming I guess. Though when it comes to other task such as encoding, rendering or w/e else you can do, the i5 wins.

If you want a cheap gaming system go with the AMD 555BE x2 dual core. the thing comes clocked at 3.2 out of the box with c3 stepping, and I think they're going to keep the unlocked multiplier from the 550BE. So overclocking is fairly easy with the correct board. Should reach 4.0 with not much of a problem and oh, It has the potential to unlock to a quad core though its not 100% unlock-able, The other 2 cores could be not working, all depends. Release Date is Nov. 4th, 2009. Price should be under 120$ since the current 720BE x3 tri-core processor is priced at 119.99. I would expect 110.00 USD.

I want to go with the i5 since I know how blazing fast they are.. but then again, Ive read that the phenom II x6 is coming out sometime next year, and it will be compatible with the AM3 socket so I wouldnt have to buy a new motherboard.

I think I'm gonna go with a 955 because its more future proof as intel loves to switch sockets.. or actually, is there any difference between a 940 and a 955 besides one being clocked higher??

I would probably pair it with a 4890 or 5850...

The 940 is an AM2+ chip, meaning that it runs only on DDR2 and will not work in newer AM3 boards. The 955 is a native AM3 chip, and is backwards compatible with the AM2+ socket since it has both DDR2 and DDR3 IMCs.

Yup, & that is stock.

i5 750 will OC better than anything AMD has out as well.

For value systems, you can't go wrong with an AMD quad!

But for higher end, AMD doesn't really fit into the picture so well.

Yea. Anything above the x3 720 and AMD starts to lose it's value. For the same price as a Phenom II 955/965 system it is possible to build i5, which is better performance wise.

Eh, but I heard AMD is sticking with AM3 for hexcore. And I don't know where p55 boards are heading... If anyone explains what might happen I would be thankful.
