That motherboard is not compatible with that processor. The motherboard is a socket AM2/AM2+, and the processor only works with socket AM3 motherboards. It tells you in the description what socket each one uses, just find a AM3 motherboard and your set.

Hi, you can put an AM2 cpu into an AM3 mobo but not the other way around. So no is the answer.
Also AM3 mobos use DDR3 ram, which is more expensive than DDR2.

If I was you I would get a phenom II 920/940 and an AM2+ mobo. The processor is slightly pricier and slightly better, but you will save the cash by using DDR2 ram and the AM2+ mobo will probably be cheaper than its AM3 counterpart

I have 4gb of G.Skill DDR2 800 ram that has worked great and is good quality, I would recommend it.

Hi, this is possibly the best forums i have used you guys are very helpful thanks, i am going to go with the ram you have recommended. Can i just ask your overall opinion on the setup i am going to try run.

Motherboard - ASUS M3N-HT Deluxe/Mempipe

Processor - AMD PHENOM II X4 940 8MB SKT-AM2+ 4000MT/s BLACK EDITION

Ram - G.Skill DDR2 800

Graphics Card - BFG 896Mb nVidia GeForce GTX 275 OCX PCI-Express VGA Card

Which at some point i hope to run two of these in sli.

PSU - Corsair TX950W

Does this seem like a good setup, will it all run perfectly?

If you have any better options than the graphics card i have chosen or psu i'd appreciate your input of these aswell, thank you.

Looks like a good build, but I suggest a modular PSU unless you don't mind messy cables. Corsair is a great PSU manufacturer, stick with them. Also, you didn't mention a case. The case is often considered not important, but if you have a nice case you will love your PC so much more.

I was planning on using this Radimax Katana case i own. I would like to purchase a new case for the build but i always end up looking at quite expensive ones lol and i can't really afford it. If you have any suggestions i'd like to hear them.

I might be able to buy a Corsair HX850W modular psu instead of the TX950W but any higher than that like the HX1000W just becomes too expensive for what i can afford at the moment.

Also i am not sure if a 850w psu will be able to run two GTX 275 OCX's in sli when i eventually have that going without there being a problem, your input on that would be helpful and if your have any better ideas of sli ready graphics cards that i could have a look at instead of what i've chosen i would be interested, thanks.

850 watts is more than enough to power 2 GTX 275's in SLI. A nice case doesn't have to cost a ton of money, take a look at the Cooler Master cases. Good luck with your new build and keep us updated.
