Exclamation Could COD4 be damaging my desktop?

Hey guys!

I've been having some problems with my desktop, first of all, the CPU usage sometimes maxes out at 100%, and thats at login... I also felt that the CPU Cooling Fan is running a bit slow...

So I got it checked and the IT technician said that COD4 (Call Of Duty 4) was overheating my CPU, and he tested the CPU Cooling Fan on another computer and found it perfectly normal...

I don't play COD4 off the disc... I use a disc emulation software because it is slighty faster...

So do you think that this is true?

Here are my specs, it's an HP Pavilion A6632F Desktop:

Processor: Intel Dual Core E2200 - 800 MHz - 775 Socket - Using Cooler Master CPU Cooling Fan (not sure which model)...

RAM: 4GB -PC2-6400 MB/sec - Type 240 pin, DDR2 SDRAM

Graphics Card: XFX NVIDIA GeForce 7200GS/7300SE (playing COD4 at minimum with quite good framerate)...

PSU: 450W (original one blew, new one is not branded...)

Motherboard: Asus IPIBL-LB (HP motherboard name: Benicia-GL8E)

Chipset: Intel G33 Express Motherboard

HDD: SeaGate 500 GB SATA 3G (3.0 Gb/sec) - 7200 rpm

Operating System: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium (64 bit)

BTW I'm only 15 years old, so I'm still learning about computers!!

So any advice about this would be greatly appreciated!!

Can you attach some pictures about temps - at idle and full load too - and fans' RPMs ? I suggest you to take a screenshot from Everest. Like this:

Are you using the stock CPU fan that came with the computer or did you install a different one?

Is the case clear of dust and debris?

How long have you been playing COD4 on that computer?

You should fill out your system specs here http://www.overclock.net/specs.php?do=addsystem

As long as the HSF is seated correctly and you have good air flow and your computer is free from dust. your computer shouldn't be over heating.

so first of all check this then post back on your findings

first things first welcome to Overclock.net

i think hes talking crap, cod4 isnt a very cpu intensive game.

my money would be on your case more than that game, if your case cant get the hot air out and cool air in then all your temps will be high. do you have any fans if so are they pulling air in or blowing hot out?

fill out your full system specs in your user cp at the top of the page so we know what your running as more info can only help.

"IT technician said that COD4 (Call Of Duty 4) was overheating my CPU"

Lol that tech obviously knows nothing about computers.
COD 4 or any other software dont affect cpu temperature.

I think changing your stock cooler with the coolermaster is the problem.
Check and make sure it is sitted properly and apply thermal paste.
Make sure the case has enough airflow too.
At least 1 front or side intake case fan, and 2 rear exhaust fan.

Of course programs can affect cpu temps, the more of a load you put on a cpu the hotter it gets. What is the temp of the room you are running the comp in? Also if you put too much thermal paste on that could cause high temps.
