Question 3 options

So I have my sig rig at the moment. I'm not sure if i should spend any moneyz on upgrading anything. I could just save for a new rig altogether.
My cpu is maxed at 3.6 because of cheap ram. I will be getting a 5850/5870 no matter what.

Option 1:
Upgrade E8400 whith Q9400. OC Q9400 to 3.6GHZ.

Option 1,1: Upgrade to better DDR2 RAMS and get E8400 to 4.2GHZ+

Option 1,2: Upgrade do DDR3 RAMS and New motherboard with my C2D

Option 1,3: Upgrade to Q9400, DDR3 RAMS and New mobo.

Option 3: Save up for Phenom II 955 system (MOBO + CPU + RAM). (How good do these OC??) Phenom II much better than C2Q???

Option 4: Save up for I5 system.(MOBO + CPU + RAM) (How good do these OC/Peform to 955???) much better than C2Q???

Option 5: Save for I7 system.

The system I could get (AUD NOT USD):

Quote:
AMD AM3 Combo:
1600MHZ G.Skill Ripjaws (4GB) $119.00
AMD Phenom II X4 955 3.2GHZ $245.00
GA-MA790FXT-UD5P 16,16 $239
TOTAL $603

Core 1156 Combo:
2000MHZ G.Skill-Trident (4GB) $149.00
Core i5-750 2.66GHZ $239.00
ASUS P7P55-Pro 16,0,4/8,8,4 $219.00
Total:$607

Core 1366 Combo:
1600MHZ Patriot-Signature (6GB) $175.00
Core I7 920 2.66GHZ $348.00
Asus P6T 16,16,4 $279.00
Total:$802
YEAHHH.. Opinions???

I realise this is general CPU discussions but there is no where else to post this I think.

What will be using it for? Cause for the price the i5 looks very tempting and its got fast RAM but if you can afford it the i7 is a ripper.

The only thing I will be doing that uses alot of processing power is gaming probably.

I know I7s are good, but for me I don't see saving up for an I7 system worth it. My real problem is deciding to Upgrad LGA775 stuff OR getting I5/955 system.

PRO's of 955 system:
I already have the bracket for my cooler unlike I5.
It has 2 PCIe 2.0 slots running at 16X unlike I5.

PRO's of I5:
Faster RAMS.
ASUS boards are sexy.
Faster????******

If I was you, I'd get a new GPU and stick with the E8400 for a while. Nvm I just seen you are getting a 5800 ;l out of the builds you listed though going by the prices you posted for each build I'd get the i5 :P

Like you said, it will mostly be used for gaming so the extra $200 for the 1366 rig isn't worth it IMO.

YEAH. Games in general don't really have high requirements which kind of weird. The difference between the I5 and I7 with a good VGA would be FPS that the human eye cannot tell the difference between that much?

I5 seems the thing I should get. I'll be getting a new VGA first though. So I will be getting I5 system next year it seems. I hope for price drops in that time.

I'd get better ram and clock the E8400 and be happy with it assuming it is for gaming only. If not, get a Q9550 (which is faster than the X4 955 and slightly slower than the Core i5).

i just made a similar system for a friend from MSY:

i7 860
GA-EP55-UD3
4GB Generic (kingston) DDR3 1333mhz (ripjaw better - but MSY didnt have any)
500GB Seagate HDD

Was <$1k
Add a video card (didt get it that day as MSY didnt have any 5 series cards.....) like a 5850/5770/5870 and it will be a beast of a system
