Unhappy any ideas for laging in games???

hey all again.

i was just talking to my mate about his computer and he was saying it had been laging in games recently, but only for about a minute then its all fine again for a bit. He said it only happend after the other day when his computer locked up so pushed the restart button and its done it since. i thought of some things but still hasnt worked so thought id see if anyone has an idea?
his computer has the following:
- Intel Q9400
- nvidia 9800GT
- some cheapish RAM
- generic PSU
- and a Gigabyte MB though i cant remember the model.
sorry might not be the best info ill find out tomrrow if need be exactly what he has.

thanks.

sounds like the GPU is overheating, not surprising with a (assumed) single slot 9800GT.

failing that, virus.

Tweak the fan speed up on that 9800GT with EVGA Precision or Rivatuner.

I agree with what everyone has said

http://downloads.guru3d.com/RivaTune....html#download - Rivatuner

http://www.guru3d.com/article/rivatu...erclock-guide/ - Guide on how to use Rivatuner

Use that to check your GPU temps,

http://hcidesign.com/memtest/ - MEM Test

Use that to check your ram - open more then 1 of the MEM Tests if you have to and just leave it running for a while

Hope that helps

Did he recently upgrade components?

What's the rating on that 'generic PSU' ?
