Red face Help my Rig

Hi, i am new to this forum and also to building computers. so i need some help/ ideas/ suggestions about a rig that i am planning to build.

some pointers that i want to point out:
1. it must look awesome. (duh)

2. i play games like crysis and MW2 so, well, it has to be able to handle stuff like that.

3. i dont really bother about how much noise it makes, well of course it cant be some jet engine but having it absolutely quite is not my main concern.

4. i want to try liquid cooling but i have never tried it before.

5. my budget is not unlimited, its about 2k. and the prices that i would be using can be found it :http://www.bellsystems.com.sg/index....oducts_pricing

thats where i would be getting my stuff, or at least its somewhere around there.
6. another thing regarding the budget, i dont mind spending more money on the rig after its built so the 2k is the budget that the rig is functional at. so there can be upgrades allowing the 2k rig to be a bit more powerful and slightly incomplete, but still functional for a period of time.

7. i like to mod my case but not in terms of drilling. i dont have high powered tools to do insane mods so i would like a case that can add stuff like LEDs and CCFLs in.

i like this case : NZXT TEMPEST EVO Crafted Series
http://www.nzxt.com/products/tempest_evo/

but i picked it because i like how it looks.

another case i looked at is the Corsair 800D
http://www.corsair.com/products/800d/default.aspx

8. i am concidering the Corsair H50 cooling for cpu. but i am not sure if i should use if if i am doing a full liquid cooling rig.

9. i would like to use an i7 950 or i7 920 if budget forbids it.

10. i have two monitors, i dont know it that changes anything but just incase.

i am really open to any suggestions.

thanks alot

edit: i forgot i would like my case to have an acrylic side panel to see the rig. i would like enough space for putting in addition fan, LEDs, CCFLs into it.

I saw that you wanted to use prices from Bell Systems...so you are opposed to ordering from newegg?

Hey there.
Well first to play crysis I would recomend you get atleast
a nvidia gtx260/ ati 4870. or better.
With one of these you would get quite playable frames with crysis on very high.
Please note that this also depends on your screen size.
Because the bigger your screen the bigger your resolution usualy is.
And bigger resolution means more resource intemsive.

But with n 17" running around 1024x768 one of thses cards wil be very nice. even a bit of an over kill. but If you get something in the line of a 23" witch wil propably run at something like 1920x1080. then i strongly recomend you dont go lower than one of these. But on the other side you can always tune down the graphics on crysis and upgrade the Graphix card again later.

In the case of cod mw2. Resource whise its a whoose. youl be able to play it very nicly with a 8800gt.

OH LOL forgot that your talking about dollar. I live in South Africa. cant even buy a decent MOBO for R2000 over here.

Well the GPU`s still count but i bet ur gonna get something much better than that.
As for the case I just got a
Coolermaster HAF 932. check it out not that expensive for a full tower and its got alot of room for fans and so on. has n smal window at the top of the left side pannel and mesh pretty much everywere els.
But drilling and so on is needed to make it a lil more to your liking so I guess youl bepassing on it.
gud luck man. Remember to post back when your finished I would love to see what you finish with.

PS by playable i mean around 30fps.
24 I think looks smooth to the human eye and 60 is nice and smooth game play.
Just in case

I believe you could go for an Intel X58 chipset motherboard. That would let you crossfire two ati graphic cards at x16/x16 (x16 meaning each gpu will run at full). You'd also be able to use the i7 cpu's, i'm not familiar with the i7s so you'll need help from someone else there.

You could go around 4-6GB of ram, that really should be enough for what you wanna do.

You could go for some of the top end ati 5800 or 5900 graphics card series. Though I would srsly recommend you do your research on that, they have just came out and there may be driver/OC problems etc. I wouldn't go for the 4000 series, especially since you've got that high budget. If you want nvidia instead then go for them, the Nvidia 295 being one of the best on the market today, though i'm not an nvidia fan myself ;P

For one...I think this is in the wrong section. Don't know if any mods are here but this should be moved to the Intel General Section.

First and foremost...you have two monitors...we should know whether you are deciding to dual screen or if you plan on using just one as well as how big it is in terms of maximum resolution. This is how we decide on what necessary computer hardware/components/parts you need. If you are wanting to be able to play MW2 and Crysis then it shouldn't take much depending on your resolution. However, if you are looking to get maximum detail then that's a whole different story.

It seems like you're wanting to go the Intel route. You have three choices from lowest to highest. Socket 775, 1156, and 1366. I do not recommend 775 since that technology is aging to the point where you might have to move on to 1156 or 1366 anyway for your next upgrade. If you're not wanting to spend the highest possible then I recommend the 1156 route. But since you're interested in the Core i7 920 or 950 I guess it might be the 1366 route.

Both the Corsair Obsidian 800D and the new revision NZXT Tempest are great choices so it really comes down to features and looks. I'm going to have to be biased with this choice so if your budget permits then I think the Obsidian is the best case to get since it looks easy to work with in terms of cable management (plenty of holes with no hard modding required). It also features hot-swappable drives, extra expansion for GPU exhaust, very spacious (lots of room to work with), and is ready for a 3x 120mm radiator at the top exhaust when you go water cooling.

I don't think you should get the Corsair H50 if you plan on water cooling your PC. It's usually recommended for those want a quiet case or an additional alternative to high-end air cooling.

I for one have no idea when it comes to water cooling but you should check out the Water Cooling Essentials thread for guides and help.

Also put into consideration that if you water cool...that you should get high quality parts which can be pretty expensive. So your choice maybe to buy the best hardware you can with the $2,000 budget and then save up for water cooling.

All your parts may be based on what others think since I don't know what brands you like or dislike and I'm biased when it comes to them. Me = Intel/Nvidia and Evga when it comes to service and warranty.

sorry about the wrong section. could you tell me what should be done now? or just wait for the mods?

currently i have two 22 inch monitors giving me a total res of 3360x1050. i am planning on using these two monitors on this new rig. if thats what you are asking.

what is the difference between the 1156 and 1336?

crossfire 2 ATI graphics care would mean that my power supply is large enough right? what kind of watts do you recommended for 2 5800 series ATI graphics?

because mostly likely i would buy only 1 card with the 2k and then upgrade it later but it wont make sense if if have to change my PSU when i add in the second gpu. so i want to make sure that i get the correct PSU at the start.

thanks

No big deal on the section...cause I have no idea what to do lol 1156 and 1336 is referring to the Intel CPU socket type. Socket 1156 is for the P55 motherboards while the 1336 socket are the X58 motherboards (which is what you have in mind...aka i7 920/950). If you're going to be using both monitors for gaming as a single screen then your're no doubt going to need at least two GPUs to handle gaming for latest games (I think). I don't have any experience with ATI cards but I think you should get the latest GPU they have out which I think is the 59XX if your budget permits especially since ATI has something called "Eye Infinity" (SP?) if I recall supports very high resolutions with multiple screens. Now that we know what resolution you'll be playing at...we have a gist of what necessary hardware you may need.

I'm curious...do you already have what parts you want to pick out (besides the case) or do you need help based on your personal preference to fit your budget?

In terms of power...I think you need something pretty powerful for two of the latest video cards available. If you know what hardware you're getting then you may know a little summary of how much power you may need on Power Supply Calculator. Once you see your results...go ahead and check out the Power Supply Recommendation thread to check/ask what power supply may fit best for you.

Well i'm not sure what your PSU is, you're gonna want 750W imo if you wanna go 2 5850's or 5870's.

You can check the specs here:

http://www.amd.com/us/products/deskt...uirements.aspx

That's for the 5870, just click the others on the left to check what they need.

It may say 600W but you want just above that.

Remember, a quality PSU with low watts is more important than a bogstandard PSU with high watts.

I've been recommended this PSU and it's what I'm going to get for my future build: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/750W-...-80plus-Bronze

Or an 850W:

http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Antec...r-Quattro-850w

It all really depends on what brands you trust.

In any case I would definitely say go for the 5970, though it may have some driver issues atm I'm sure AMD would fix them later.

The 5970 is AMAZING, the top end ATI graphics card atm, you would only need one then maybe some time in the future buy another, though it may be a two or three years before you'd want another.
