Not looking for an argument/fight etc.
I been browsing the net and I would pass by benchmarks where the Phenom II 965 would best the i7 920 in gaming? I understand that in applications etc i7 920 is much better but why is it in gaming it lags behind? from the benches I have seen. if im wrong if someone has links to accurate more up to date benches that would be nice. Thanks In Advance.

Well were they running the same clocks? or stock clocks? Cause at stock clocks i think the 965 might pull ahead, but if OC'd to the same speeds(4.0 for example) the 920 would win probably.

Simply because in games not optimized for multiple-core processors, the AMD chip has a higher clock speed and is therefore faster...stock. What 99% of those reviews don't take into account is that the 920 can reach much higher overclocks than the 965, in which case the 920 would destroy it. If they were to compare the chips at the exact same clock speeds the 920 would win hands down.

Ah ok.
but during game during those benches itsnt turbo boost kicked in on the 920? I dont think those benches represent it being locked at 2.67?

Yes, but still, 2.8GHz vs 3.4GHz?

Clock for clock. Meaning same speed. Amd PhenomII 955 or 965 will beat i7 920 in about 80% of games out there. And also depending on what video card you using too.

I am going for biggest bang for my buck, but when you go with the AMD 955 you lose out on the triple channel memory. I was first looking at building a system around the i7 920 and then get 3x2gb triple channel memory. If I get a AMD 955 I would have to get dual channel at either 2x4gb or 4x2gb or what ever memory set up would be best, cause I really don't know. I've had a hard time trying to find out the performance difference between those three options.
