my System Papst 120mm is 100CFM at 12v. its rated for a max of 16v though! so i tried giving it 15.3V with the 3.3V and -12V. the -12V rail has minimal amperage though, not even enough to give any hint of activity (barely enough to run a small 80mm fan, this monster consumes ~9W at 16V so it needs ~0.5A whereas the 80mm's needed .08 each (powered 2))

so i have a question: what if i hooked up two grounds to ground and 12v and 5v from a molex to the positive for a differential of 17V? would that work? meaning would that give 17V? i dont want to break the motor, but if it gives 17V i will try it as since its rated for 16v, it should be fine with this small overvolt

you will wind up shorting out your PSU. You will be putting the two power supplies in parallel and what you want to do is put them in series. You can't put them in series either because it will require you to connect either the 5V or the 12V to one of the grounds.

Your best bet to overvolt fans is to get a cheepie 300W PSU and mod it.

god i am stupid zomg i knew that too thanks, of course the electricity will just run through the 12v wire then to the 5v and infinite current will be drawn there, causing a short circuit and possibly an explosion! :YAY:
