a multimeter shouldn't damage your circuit by simply checking continuity. however, i've never checked continuity on a live circuit. i can't imagine a scenario when you would need to. if a circuit is off and you want to see if it works, you check continuity. if a circuit is on, all you need to do is read the voltage.

If you measure resistance you will cause an arc and it will fry your card/mobo/whatever.
You check resistances when it is OFF, or else it will damage your hardware/multimeter, no matter how good it is. kthx. Hell, he said his multimeter manual said not to. Don't give false information when false information could severely cripple his rig.
