Default Plz help me with multimeter, I'm a noob

I just bought this multimeter.
http://www.thesourcecc.com/estore/Pr...roduct=2218202

And i want to do this volt mod on my 8600gt.
http://www.vr-zone.com/index.php?i=4925&s=4

How do i set up multimeter? do I use both of the measuring sticks (if thats what there called)? and can i damage my card if i set the multimeter wrong?

Thanks for any help.

nay, first off, computer components are DC then you choose the voltage option that is closest to the actual voltages you will be measuring - i presume they will be around 1.4-1.6v and if so you will want one that displays the volts just like that

probably labelled something like 0.000 like you suggested, just make sure its just Volts not any of the others like kV or mV

if you have a 1.5v battery around try it on that

Ok i got it set on DC, and I got it set on "v" not "mv", and it seems to be hovering around 0.000, is it ready to use?

And at this link there's a spot labeled "vgpu messure"
http://www.vr-zone.com/index.php?i=4925&s=4
do i stick both prongs in there, or just one of them?

thanks

yeh it will hover around 0, just try holding each prong in your hands and see if it changes at all... they usually do ever so slightly

put the red prong in the measure hole, and put the black one on your case

I guess I'm doing something wrong, I stick the thing in there and it reads 0.042v??

It reads a 1.5v AA battery as 1.6v so i guess its kind of working

I'm wondering, did I even get the right one?
http://www.thesourcecc.com/estore/Pr...roduct=2218202

Oh, and it doesn't read 0.042v, I had it set wrong,(and probably still do) when I stick the red tester lead in the hole and the black to ground it reads 000.0v.
