Default Chassis FAn header failure

Here's a question for you guys. Its about a theory sorrounding the 3 pin outlets on most MOBO's for fans.

- a couple of fellows over at this other forum I used to hang out on - claimed to bear consistent testimonies of the following:

That when the average CASE FAN, is connected to the average Mobo's 3 pin power connector, OVER TIME, these outlets become dead (i.e - they dont give out power anymore).

One theory as I recall them as saying - is that the resistors, (though I doubt resistors would be needed for the said!) after a while, - because the Current/voltage draw of the case fans are more than one the connectors output- DIE, and with them - the power output.

I've personally never seen it - but I've never really used the "chassis" fan connector for a case fan.

BUT - here's the thing - all the propriety PC makers such as dell and compact, actually use THOSE connectors, to power the case fans of their PCs.
The main purpose behind that evidently - so that when temperature sensor of the mobo/CPU , report high/low temperatures, the speed of the respective fans can be adjusted accordingly.

What do you figure?
Those mobo's used in the said PCs have higher outputs at the 3-pin headers?
or
The theory is garbage?

(I'd personally like to uttilize them myself - I may go about some.. testing.. )
(I also wonder if i could boost (if necessary - their outputs. The only obstacle I foresee - is the current flowing back into alternate sub-circuits of the mobo (which would definatly happen, if they're no resistors present - WHICH, one could understand seeing that under normal circumstances, they wouldnt be needed.)- but anywho - thats another matter.
What do you guys think about the main argument?

It's actually very known and true. I ran an Antec TriCool (which I think is 7w on full load, a bit below the max of those headers), and one of the TRIMMERS exploded and shut down my rig (which was quite annoying because I wrote a pretty long essay in Danish, though that got me used to CTRL+S a bit more )

TL;DR, it's true and has happened to me.

Make sure you sandpaper the hole, and then put some U rubber over it to avoid sharp edges. Put some grease around the newly drilled hole, and then screw your computer, screw it hard. Maybe install some UV lights and turn em up to indicate that your computer is also excited.

hmm! - I see gonx (thanks for the reply ^_^)

So - thats one bearing the same testimony...

( does make sense though, except, that I WOULD THINK, that the darn manufacturers would allow for the current draw to be more variable :[)
