Default worth it?

Hey guys,
I have 2 XFX 8800GTs SLI do you think it is worth volt modding them? I am ok with a soldering iron and I dont mind getting my hands dirty but I just needed a little more info on it since I've never done this before. I was wondering what are the benefits to volt-modding a GPU and what are the risks of doing it aswell. Thanks

well the question would be: do u need the extra performance, or just more bragging rights?
:P

I doubt v-modding ure GPU will help u too much, added with the fact that soldering (especially if it's ure first time on SMT components) can be really hard.

Benefits:
-higher OC

Risks/downfalls:
-MUCH higher temperatures
-Easy to mess up card if the temp is too high on the soldering iron
-Easy to mess up if u don't have steady hands
-If u use the wrong POT, it could be suicide
-If a component on ure GPU shorts, it may take down ure mobo with it.
-much more

as u can see, u need bawls to do this.
my suggest IF ure gonna do this: MAKE SURE u've got the right POT at the right place, and that u adjust it in SMALL increments. Keep an eye on the temps too.

With NVidia cards, I'm pretty sure they get plenty of juice. I know that the 3870's have a hard time overclocking too far (core) without vmodding. Hence ian's vmodded 3870s.

I'm currently psyching myself up to do this surgery myself.

If you are a benchmarker then you'll be able to get some better scores. If this is the sort of thing you like to do then its "worth" will be for you to decide.

I just dropped 2 grand on mods for my car, not worth it to most people, but to me worth every penny.
