Default Pencil mods: how do they work?

What exactly does the graphite have anything to do with anything as far as boosting anything... lol

how at all does a pencil do any good for volt modding?

Graphite conducts electricity and boosts the amount of flow between certain points.

I believe thats what it does. Correct me if i'm wrong.

I believe since graphite has a slight conductivity to it its like physically changing the voltage for a range of devices.

The point of the pencil mod is to make a bridge from one end of the resistor to the other. Doing so will result in less vdroop and vdrop. Conductive pens are prefered when doing this.

what does shading the outside of the resistor have anything to do with voltage? isnt it whats inside the resistor that has anything to do with voltage...

From what I've read the graphite basically eliminate resistors by connecting the 2 sources together. If u catch my drift.
The graphite is conductive.

it can also be used to add resistance to a circut

so its just an easier way to bridge circuits without soldering in jumper wires?

so basically if you accidentally touch a line that your not supposed to with a graphite then your screwed?

what about line thickness changes. doesn't that affect the amount of electricity pushed through? and what if the line is to fat or to skinny? Seems kinda shady (no pun intended)

The mod works by lowering the resistance of a micro resistor on the board, because graphite (The grey bit in the middle of the pencil that you write with) is electrically conductive. This causes the voltage accross this resistor to decrease, and the voltage accross the chip to increase (have a look at resistors in series). Of course it does work in a slightly different way to that (VRM - Voltage Regulator Module, and other solid state power electronics), but thats the basics.

All volt mods should be carried out with caution and should be checked with a digital multi meter. If you are not confident in your ability to carry out such a mod, do not attempt it.

It's not as conductive as a piece of wire, because the idea is not no totally bypass the resistor (which would fry the device it's protecting) but to slightly decrease it's resistance to allow more voltage in the circuit (current=voltage/resistance). Yes, a teeny tiny line would not allow much of a bypass, but worst case you're right at stock.
