24 V fan mod: Alternate method?

So, I got me a couple of 6 in 24 V DC fans yesterday. I thought no worries, I'll just swap ground with the -12 V rail... Unfortunately these fans take 1.1 A @24 V, so the -12V rail can't supply enough jam, since mine will onlyu do 0.8 A.
So I'm just wondering if there is any other way of getting 24 V to these fans?

A +24V dedicated PSU or power brick.

That's what i was figuring i'd have to do. Maybe i'll just buy a 24 V transformer.

Transformer is only for AC you can't use that on your PSU. i think +12/-12 is the best solution

-.8amps on the -12v is fine. I am/have been running 3x 4.5W, 24v Nidec Beta V's off of a mod'd PSU I fixd up ~2yrs ago.
*Keep in mind.. amperage on the [-] side will add to the total current available..much in same way the -12v + 12v = 24v ... ok?

I understand that, but i have 2 of the fans which means i need ~1 amp. I just figured i'd get a dedicated transformer, plug it into my wall, and call it a day...

Yuk.. get a switching type supply instead..it will be all kinds of smaller and produce less heat, over a typical Transformer type supply...no to mention they are much cheaper too.
*PS- if you have 2x the amperage in the form of ~14v you can run those 24v fans, nice and quietly, @ ~13.8v.

Overall CFM might not be as important as you think, [depending on what type of rad you have them on] 6x fans in a push pull on a 120.3 provides plenty of pressure ...i guess ambients, heat load, etc. would come into play when considering cutting the CFM in half though.
![]() I run 3x Nidec Beta V's @ 24v's + shroud on my PA120.3 ..I would use 6x if I went 14v.
