So I'm trying to put together a computer. But it will not turn on, so I did the following:

So did I miss a step, or is there something I haven't checked? |

it does sound like the power supply is bust if your not getting no spins on your fans.

Have you tried resetting the CMOS - very often new mobos require you to reset the CMOS.

Sorry to hear this
![]() Are you certain that there are no extra stand-offs installed that are shorting the mobo? Perhaps remove all the components from the case and set them up on a cardboard box. Generally speaking this is a tried and true method for new builds as it allows easy access to components, cables, wires and also provides ease of swapping, switching and checking. Additionally it eliminates the possibility of a "case-short"

Doesn't sound like a short to me, sounds like psu. A short would probably give you power for a brief moment before shorting out. It also doesn't sound like a "reset the cmos" issue as that should have nothing to do with getting power to the board.

![]() Still, I would remove all the components from the case and test out in the open. Also, OP, you could jump the PSU and attach a single fan just to make sure you have power, or if you have a multi-meter you could check the voltage on the 5V and 12V lines.
